The way I see it, this site there are two convincing arguments not to buy Christmas presents for your cats:
- They are cats. They don’t celebrate Christmas;
- They prefer the wrapping anyway.
There are, buy more about however, site multiple reasons to go ahead and do it anyway, not least because you want to. Plus, if you go ahead and order a luxury Christmas stocking from the team behind my favourite subscription box, My Purrfect Gift Box, it’s going to come in a nice purple box. And we all know cats love boxes.
My Purrfect Gift Box is, you’ll remember from my last post on the topic, a monthly subscription box for cat ladies – with or without the cats to go with that reputation. The box comes at four price points: a small and standard box of cat-themed accessories; and a small and standard box of said accessories plus some additional gifts for cats. Prices range from £15.95 for the “lite” option to £27.95 for the “standard with gifts for kitty” box.
But what you may not remember about My Purrfect Gift Box is that the Isle of Man-based company work with small businesses and designer-makers to bring you a fantastic selection of quirky, beautiful cat-themed items every month. Spares, incidentally, often end up in the My Purrfect Gift Box shop, where you can pick up all sorts of one-of-a-kind stocking fillers for the cat lover in your life. Incidentally, since it was Chief Cat Lady Kim’s birthday on Tuesday they’re offering 15% off any purchase before midnight on Sunday, with code TAKE15.
Of course, depending on your budget, My Purrfect Gift Box would be delighted to set you up with a gift subscription too. So what can you expect from a My Purrfect Gift Box? Read on…
Each month’s box is based on a broad theme, and I recently (-ish) received October’s Home Baking Box* (standard, plus cat gifts) for review. Well, the last series of The Great British Bake Off was on at the time and it clearly struck a chord – they sold out of the boxes, so if you like the look of any of these goodies you’ll have to track them down yourself!
The gifts included a handmade linen baking glove and matching tea towel by Etsy seller TextilesHomeDecor; cat-shaped metal cookie cutters; adorable stoneware ceramic measuring spoons, found at World Market in the USA; and an exclusive baking set consisting of cupcake cases and edible cat-shaped cake toppers. These also came with a cinnamon pumpkin cupcake recipe, which you might remember me having a go at during a recent self-care Sunday.
For Biggie and Scooter, there was a catnip-filled mouse made from cupcake-print fabric by KraftyKatsUK; luxury dried venison slices by The Innocent Cat Company and some tasty Applaws 100% natural cat food. Note that when I say “tasty” I’m basing it on how fast the cats get through a pouch and not personal experience, although it’s one of those cat foods that look better than something you’d serve yourself.
One thing that I really loved about this box was that although almost everything in it is re-usable, it also works really well together: you could easily, as I did, have a full-on cat-themed baking day. Why should your baking be cat-themed? Well, why not? If you/your recipient is not the kind of person who would make everything cat-themed, then My Purrfect Gift Box probably isn’t for you/them.
December’s box is Winter Wonderland-themed, and will shop on or before the 20th – probably a little too late to open on Christmas day, but the perfect surprise for that no-man’s land between Christmas and New Year. The My Purrfect Gift Box team are really responsive on Twitter too, so give them a shout if you have any questions!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to take advantage of that discount and order a stocking for my cats.
