The other week, Silverburn shopping centre reached out with the invitation of a lifetime:
Did I fancy giving my wardrobe a complete overhaul for winter – and in only 10 minutes?
Of course, there’s a catch in that this complete overhaul involves just five items, selected for you by a professional stylist during your 10 minute consultation. Your5 is Silverburn’s seasonal shopping event, based – as my stylist told me – around the French idea that updating your wardrobe for the new season requires no more than five pieces, picked to go with everything, rather than my somewhat scattergun approach to shopping that consists of buying whatever I like the look of and still never having anything to wear.
Those attending were able to pick either a fashion or a beauty consultation, so I brought my mum along and we tried one each. While she learned the basics of the smudge eye – one of five on trend looks selected by Silverburn’s crack team of MUAs – I opted for the style consultation.
First up was the boot, but not just any boot: this year, winter calls for chunky ankle boots that can and should be worn with both skirts and trousers. Skirts should be floaty and pleated, or with metallic detail perfect for party season; while this year it’s all about the wide-legged trouser. Winter coats should be a timeless trench or military style, while when it comes to knits – the chunkier the better.
These five pieces allow plenty of room for variation, my stylist explained, so what worked for me might not necessarily work for my mum, and vice versa. As we walked around each of the stations, she explained the reasoning behind the selections on display from fashion retailers across the centre – while making a note of the pieces that particularly caught my eye.
During my consultation, I was pleased to discover that I was much more prepared for winter than I thought I was: I bought my bottle green trench coat in the January sales, already own three pairs of ankle boots and have skirts and jumpers coming out of my ears. So what should the girl who owns all the basics do? Why, buy the gold metallic wide-legged trousers she can’t get out of her head of course.
And joke’s on you(r5), because I had to talk my mum out of buying the same pair.
I’m crossing my fingers Your5 will be back in the spring: the concept is great fun, as well as encouraging me to consider items I’d never have looked at otherwise. To be fair, I’m yet to find the right occasion to give the gold trousers their first outing – perhaps it just needs to be a Tuesday.
In the meantime, why not download the Silverburn Plus app ahead of your next visit to the centre for exclusive discounts, news and competitions?
Thanks to Silverburn for inviting me to experience Your5 and for comping me mah shiny new pants. All views are, as ever, my own and unbiased.
