from the mouths of birds: the last year’s girl gaggle takeover;
21-member strong all-female choir Gaggle has been one of my more interesting musical discoveries of the year. Led by Deborah Coughlin, they’ve been around for years but various musical projects – including a touring version of opera The Brilliant and the Dark – held off debut album From the Mouth of the Cave until this very week. It’s a perfectly-choreographed cacophony of opera’s more theatrical elements, tribal chants, horror movie themes and barely-recognisable pop elements – in fact, it’s so close to impossible to describe that as part of my review of the album for The Arts Desk I gave up and commanded readers to “just go listen” to trailer track “Army of Birds”.
I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that some of the girls have written some guest posts for this site on the topic of “what Gaggle means to me”. Stay tuned…
[NB: Depending on what time you read this not all posts will be available. Please check back later!]
