The Birthday Suit - A Hollow Hole of Riches

It doesn’t seem right to feel a bit sorry for The Birthday Suit when the tunes are this strong, but it seems that some fans of frontman Rod Jones’ other band are up in arms that its members might be working on other projects while said band is on hiatus. That said, on the strength of the above song they’re maybe justified in their concern…

Featuring Scott Hutchinson of Frightened Rabbit, “A Bigger World” is the first single from A Hollow Hole of Riches, The Birthday Suit’s third album which is out in March. While those previous records have been decent enough, “A Bigger World” is something else – a meaty, fully-realised rocker that, appropriately enough, reminds me a bit of Frightened Rabbit (specifically “Holy”, or the other songs on Pedestrian Verse that sound a bit like, well, Idlewild, during their brilliant mid-period).

“A Bigger World” is available to download right now if you preorder A Hollow Hole of Riches from PledgeMusic.

  1. This song did remind me of how much I miss Idlewild, as you said, during their brilliant mid-period, I feel a bit guilty I had almost forgotten about them.

  2. Oh this is right up my street. Once things are more settled this goes on the list of albums to sort ourselves out and get our hands on.
