Sleater-Kinney, 2014

last year’s jams: bury our friends;

If you’re going to come back, come back in style. And my girls did just that: sneaking a 7″ into their recently-released vinyl box set marked only with the date of a Tuesday in January and containing a new song. Last night, a rip of the track – “Bury Our Friends” – appeared on a well-known music news site, but I barely had time to listen to it three times before the announcement came:

NEW ALBUM
NEW VIDEO
NEW TOUR
WITH A GLASGOW DATE.

Eight years ago, sitting at a desk just across the road from this one, I was choking back sobs and hoping my colleagues wouldn’t notice while a boy I’d never met texted me comforting things. Today I threw up in the bathroom and flipped out on Twitter while the boy – who, in the meantime, I’d only bloody married – ignored my calls.

But Sleater-Kinney are back in the world, and there ain’t nothin’ harshing my buzz.

No Cities To Love is out on 20th January 2015 on SubPop. Sleater-Kinney play Glasgow’s O2 ABC on 25th March 2015. My hands are shaking even typing this. Send help.
