PAWS

last year’s jams: deceptacon;

With second album Youth Culture Forever, released a couple of months ago, PAWS are no longer just a Glasgow band that I love but world-class purveyors of indie-punk. But as much as they now belong to the world, they’re still a band fronted by a man in an excellent jacket who is happy to take the time of day to talk feminism with TYCI.

That’s why, when the band’s live studio cover of Le Tigre’s disco feminist manifesto “Deceptacon”, appeared on Noisey last week I wasn’t particularly surprised. Featuring the vocals of Little Big League’s Michell Zauner, PAWS’ version is not intended as a reinterpretation of the original but rather a loving recreation of the party-is-political spirit of Kathleen Hanna’s riotous holler.

I’ll be in Edinburgh tonight along with my fellow femmes fabuleux, Lauren and Amanda, to present a two-hour TYCI takeover of Fresh Fringe. You can listen live online between 8pm and 10pm.
