the drama you’ve been craving: last month’s mix, july 2008;

Those of you who thought that the reason July’s mix had not yet appeared was me running scared of another cease and desist notice: rejoice! The only thing holding me up has been the craziness of this month: deadlines, festivals, premieres, houseguests and project ends and epic, unforgettable concerts. I suspect some of that may show in this month’s selection. Grab as fast as you can, in case the Sheriff has a problem with Old Steady too.

(Which reminds me, if you were promised a CD in the mail: again, I apologise and cite a busy month. It’s on my to-do list.)

*JAY: That sounded worryingly like Mick Hucknall…

MOAR LYG:  so young, so hung, so unqualified;

  • Thanks! Oh so very cool. Need to go and listen now.

    Should I tell ya that The Hold Steady is in town tonight? Hmmm? Should I? :p

  • That BAND! They just conspire to be everywhere I am not, whenever I’m not there. Grrr 😉

  • Sara

    I adore that Wilco track, as evidenced by its presence on a couple of mixes and my most played list.

  • douglas martin

    haha. way to stick it to the man by including a hold steady track. that was ballsy, and drew a big grin out of your dear american friend.

    oh, and i’m glad you like vivian girls. i didn’t expect the guitars-that-sound-like-buzzsaws-cutting-through-rusty-metal to be your thing, but those harmonies really do transcend genres, don’t they? i love them.

  • @mdAf: it’s different when it’s chicks. Besides, I was a riot gurl!

    No word from the Sheriff, even though it’s Monday and they must be back at work. I guess you’re fine if you’re not posting anything pre-release, which I suppose is fair.

  • douglas martin

    DAMN THE MAN! and those pre-release dollars.

    “it’s different when it’s chicks.” i understand, though; gotta represent. i’m sure if it were a bunch of dudes harmonizing with all that reverb and shit, i would still like it, but, admittedly, not as much. anyhow, vivian girls are my favorite new band of the year. and your dear american friend is glad you like them.

  • 2. REM: Living Well Is The Best Revenge

    I am really enjoying their new album and this is my favourite song off it at the moment.

  • I haven’t gotten around to buying it yet… shameful, as it means there’s a hole in my extensive REM discography! (I did buy this track on iTunes after T in the Park, if the Web Sheriff is listening ;))

  • Stevie

    Oh look Helio Sequence, it’s like Steve has the best taste in music ever and is never wrong :o) ‘Lately’ is my song of this year for obvious reasons, although still a little way to go before the lyrics are finally true. Sxx

  • We know this is true Stevie 😉 I was saying to my friend Kate earlier how it’s odd that sometimes I can hear things other people tell me are great and just not get it, but then I’ll hear it again when I least expect it – when I’m meant to, I guess – and it’ll just work. That’s what it was like with that song.
