“What Gaggle means to me” by Gaggle member Angela.

I got involved with Gaggle because Deborah spotted me singing really loudly on a table outside a pub! We both spent a lot of time at The George Tavern in Whitechapel. Deborah asked someone my name and a few days later asked me if I wanted to join a new project she was starting. I wasn’t sure, but she insisted I came along to a rehearsal, so I did. There were only about five of us then.

The first rehearsal I went to I took two friends for back up. One sat on a chair reading a book, whilst my other friend joined in and also became a member for a while. We sang in a room above the pub practising the same song (“Crows”) over and over. That song features now on the album.

Gaggle’s 18-track mixtape sets out the band’s influences

For quite a while “Crows” would make me giggle because it reminded me of the way it all started and the memory of us all upstairs above the pub practising it not knowing quite what we were doing there. Meeting these girls and making friends with people I wouldn’t normally meet outside of these strange circumstances. When I think about this song now it makes nearly makes me cry with such staggeringly happy emotion and a reminder of a journey which started with odd moments with strangers in a room above a pub that has become a magical friendship and the adventure of Gaggle.
