tidings of comfort and JOY;
Singer-songwriter Jenny Owen Youngs is one of those rare, flawless human beings and you may be hearing more about her third album, An Unwavering Band of Light, as I put together something on my favourite albums of the year. You may know that the prospect of her opening for Frank Turner was a deciding factor in getting me out to Boston to visit my bestie Whitney a couple of months ago – she’s yet to play this side of the Atlantic, as far as I know.
On her blog this week, the appropriately-acronymed JOY announced the beginning of her new ‘Exhibit’ recording project. Every Tuesday for eight weeks she plans to spend some time in a New York City museum, and then compose and home-record a song inspired by the visit within a week. Take a listen to the first song in the series, “Here Comes The Monster” – inspired by the Hall of Marine Life at the American Museum of Natural History – below.
Jay and I went to the same museum on our honeymoon, and this photo is blatantly worthy of republication.

She opened for Aimee Mann a few years back, I think… Wish she’d come back, though!
